Super Girls in Flight!
Dear Super Girl:
I’m in awe of everything unfolding around us right now. I’ve said it before, but this year is really cool. In the last five weeks we turned TWO and I won the Young Nonprofit Professional of the Year for Phoenix award!
These two milestones alone have created a lot of great momentum around us. The award ceremony for the Young Nonprofit Professional of the Year award was really sweet because my mom came with me. I’m proud that she was there to experience that with me because she sees Severson Sisters in its raw, behind-the-scenes form.
I remember saying in my speech that night that I believe as long as individuals live their life from a place of service, they are automatically Professionals of the Year.
We’re in the business of service and our service just happens to be empowerment. It occurred to me earlier this week that I honestly only have to look across my desk right now to see that piece in action.
Here’s what I mean…
I’m grateful to have a partnership with the Service Learning Center at Arizona State University. I have five ASU students working as our 2013 Spring Super Girl Interns and it’s honestly one of the most empowering parts of my journey so far.
Up to this point, I’ve done a lot of the day-to-day operations for Severson Sisters myself. *Side note here – I have a Board of Directors, Advisory Board, Severson Sisters Ambassadors, Partners and Volunteers working with me and I am aware and thankful for every single one of these folks. There are roughly 50 individuals that make up all of those categories.*
These five Spring Super Girl Interns are working right alongside me on a daily basis. They all jumped in and took on big assignments, events, campaigns and programs. They’re writing for us, reaching out to corporate partners and schools, volunteering with the programs, brainstorming and implementing new initiatives and involved with big new extensions of our brand.
They all look for guidance, feedback, support and training. To sum that up – they all welcome opportunities to grow as women and leaders. I understand that. We’re an empowering brand and everyone involved with the brand knows the importance of empowerment.
Here’s what I’m learning in this experience: This added layer of our company is in itself one big milestone. There is an abundance of opportunity for these students to take on and really invest in and that’s sweet to see. We’re growing and these Super Girl Interns showed up at the most perfect time!
I’m learning about myself through these students. I trust I’m teaching them something too. I love letting go of projects and assigning them to the Super Girl Interns knowing how empowering that sense of ownership and accomplishment is to individuals.
I love understanding their different communication and learning styles so I can best be of service to these Super Girl Interns.
After all, if you live your life from a place of service good things come your way.
Super Girls in Flight…join us as we fly!
Sending you all my very best Super Girl energy for a very special day!
