What: Severson Sisters is a bullying solutions, self-esteem and self-compassion organization that was formed to help address the significant impact of bullying, specifically, among girls. We use creative arts as our method for enhancing self-esteem, as well as self-compassion, build self-esteem, develop social skills to support healthy relationships, and mitigate their need for a false sense of superiority through bullying tactics. Severson Sisters and the Cactus Pine Girl Scouts have partnered on an ongoing program called Stop Bullies Now! This customized program bridges the Girl Scouts curriculum with the Severson Sisters curriculum. Severson Sisters will teach the Girl Scouts Reach Out portion in the aMuse creative program. We will mix in our self-esteem components and bullying solution techniques within the creative guidelines of the Girl Scouts. At the end of this program Girl Scouts will receive their Reach Out badge for this Journey.
Who: We serve 100 4th and 5th grade Girl Scouts in one day.
Volunteer Opportunity: We have two levels of volunteer opportunities available.
Teammates: Teammates are caring, compassionate people who are interested in inspiring girls. Teammates will work alongside our participants as they create, providing a friendly and safe environment for the girls to express themselves. Teammates are encouraged to learn about hobbies, school and friend dynamics.
Group Facilitators: These are individuals who have experience in the social work, counseling or psychology field. These facilitators lead conversations around bullying, peer pressure and gossip. While our program is not a licensed counseling program, we do want qualified professionals giving insight into ways our girls can handle hard situations they’re facing in school today.
